Revolving Door @ Meccanica
Revolving Door is a series of intimate events taking place at Meccanica’s new presentation centre between August – November, 2014, aimed at cultivating culture and fostering a deeper sense of community within the Southeast False Creek neighbourhood. From inspired art showings, to sustainable dining, to pet-friendly photo-shoots, the events have been curated by local connectors (the Revolving Door “residents”) with the goal of telling their unique stories to the larger community.
Revolving Door is presented by Cressey and the events will be hosted at Meccanica, (located on the corner of East First and Quebec Street) connecting the art scene of Main Street with the community of Olympic Village and Southeast False Creek. The vision of Revolving Door is to offer the public a series of seven intimate events, curated by local ‘residents’ – artists, entertainers and connectors within the community – who will transform the space to help tell their unique stories while raising funds for local organizations.
The first Revolving Door resident will be ROVE
Initiated by up-and-coming artist Jamie Smith, ROVE is a gallery crawl that promotes local artists around Main Street. Drawing on response from the community, Smith’s exhibit, ‘Words to live by,’ will use visual art to depict the mantras that inspire our daily lives. Attendees are encourage to start at one of eight galleries and pick up a map and then “rove” around Main Street viewing local art at each space.
