Southeast False Creek and Olympic Village Real Estate, Events, and more

Concert Properties False Creek Open House Report

Last Thursday night was a rare one for me. I had two events to attend on the same night, and neither one involved my kids. First up was the YVR Bloggers event just up the hill at Hootsuite. Next I wanted to be sure to get to the Concert Properties False Creek open house at Science World to learn more about their plans for a 5 tower development immediately east of the Village on False Creek.

Overall the models looked just like the renderings we showed you recently. There will be 5 towers and the one in the southeast corner will be turned over to the city as rental housing. The three buildings at the south of the site will be built first and the fifth building (the one in white below) will come at the end of the project. This building, the mostly northerly of the five will have the best views as well as the largest and most luxurious suites.

They also had a number of boards up showing the different aspects of the development.

Quebec Street and 1st Avenue

This one showed an interpretation of how the corner of Quebec Street and 1st Avenue could look in the future. Note the long proposed street car.

Railspur Mews

Railspur Mews is envisioned as a public pedestrian connector from Quebec Street through the development and onto Walter Hardwick Avenue in the Olympic Village. The inspiration is a historic railway spur line.

Urban Laneway

The Urban Laneway is a the main vehicular access to Concert Properties False Creek. The street is designed to encourage both pedestrian traffic as well. It will run south from 1st Ave.

Arc in the Park

The park here arcs across the towers and takes up the northwest part of the site. Bike lanes coming from Ontario and connecting around Science World may still be tweaked.

When?

The consensus from the Concert representatives that I spoke with as well as the city staff who were there is that this development is at least a year away from starting it’s sales and marketing program. The actual launch date will depend on the absorption of the existing inventory in the area (which is not insignificant) and the state of the real estate market in general.

What do you think about Concert Properties False Creek?
